Maternity Voices

City & Hackney Maternity Voices is a committee made up of local parent representatives and health professionals, which advises the NHS in City & Hackney on the care they provide to women, their partners and their babies, during pregnancy, birth and in the weeks after the baby’s arrival.

The role of the Partnership is to make sure that local maternity units listen to and take account of the views and experiences of people who use their services.
Members include:

  • local people who are currently expecting a baby or who’ve had a baby recently (user reps)
  • representatives from voluntary groups who support pregnant women and new parents
  • representatives from Hackney Council’s public health team and City & Hackney Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)
  • healthcare professionals who work in the community or at Homerton Hospital, such as senior midwives, obstetricians, neonatologists, health visitors and GPs and staff from the local authority, children’s centres and doulas

This year’s priorities for the Partnership are:

pregnancy – ensure information is easily to access and support is available; promoting Homerton’s maternity services
labour - Improving care at the Early Obstetric Unit
postnatal - Breast feeding support
