Are you an unpaid carer?
Do you regularly provide care and support to a relative or a friend who is over 18 and Ill, has a disability, substance misuse or mental health issues?
If the answer is YES then you could be eligible for support from the Carers are the bedrock partnership.
Carers are the bedrock is the name for the network of voluntary organisations that have been commissioned by the London Borough of Hackney to support unpaid carers.
There is a network of organisations working collaboratively to provide Carer needs assessments, support and services.
Partner organisations are listed below.
* City and Hackney Carers Centre
Offers advice, advocacy and support to un-paid carers including counselling, life coaching, befriending and support groups
* Alzheimer's Society
Provide information, advice, signposting and support to people with any form of dementia and their carers
* Age UK East London
Provides a range of personalized individual and community services for older people and their carers
* Hackney Caribbean Elderly Organisation
Provide exercise, arts and crafts, health education, outings and holidays for older people, particularly those who are Caribbean
* Hackney Chinese Community Services
Offer singing, exercise classes, a lunch club and more, mainly for the Chinese community from Hong Kong, Vietnam, mainland China, Malaysia and Singapore
* Vietnamese Mental Health Services
Provide a quality and culturally sensitive mental health service to support the wellbeing of people from Vietnam.
* City and Hackney MIND
Provide specialist mental health services and support people to achieve their personal goals and relieve mental distress
* St. Joseph's Hospice
Provide care, support and advice for anyone with serious and life threatening conditions, their family, friends and carers.
* Positive East
London's largest community based HIV charity.
Support people with mental health issues in the Orthodox Jewish community, including carers as part of a whole family approach
Provide a range of health and well-being related services to the Kurdish, Turkish, Turkish Cypriot and Eastern European Turkish people, mainly refugees and asylum seekers
* Bikur Cholim
Provide support, facilities and services for the Orthodox Jewish community including carers as part of a whole family approach
* Hands Inc
Provide a range of complementary therapies, wellbeing activities such as stress awareness, women only movement and relaxation class
* North London Muslim Community Centre
Is open to people of all ages and backgrounds while being culturally sensitive to the needs of Hackney's Muslim Community
* Hackney Refugee Forum
Support carers from refugee and migrant communities.
What services are availiable to me?
The carers are the bedrock partnership can offer you the following services:
* Information and advice on your rights as a carer.
* A statutory Carers needs assessment.
* Information and advice on benefit entitlements.
* Carers support and information groups.
* Access to complimentary therapies.
* A quarterly newsletter.
* An invitation to carers events such as carers rights day and carers week activities.
* The opportunity to be part of a carers involvement forum which gives feedback on the carers are the bedrock service.
* Signposting and referral to a range of extra services such as advocacy, counselling, and life coaching, befriending and much more.
How can I access Carers Services?
The Carers Coordination Service (CCS) is the first point of contact for all carers in Hackney and it is managed by City and Hackney Carers Centre.
Step 1: Register by calling the CCS on 020 85330951 or by e-mailing: CCSAdmin@hackneycarers.org.uk<mailto:CCSAdmin@hackneycarers.org.uk>
Step 2: The CCS will discuss your needs and what services are available to you and they will draw up an individual development plan (IDP) with you. The IDP will help you and CCS to know if your needs have been met by the service/s you use.
Step 3: You will be asked to choose which organisation from the Carers are the bedrock partnership you would like to use.
Step 4: The CCS will refer you to your chosen organisation. The organisation will make an appointment with you to carry out your statutory carers needs assessment. This may lead to additional services.
