GP Practice afternoon closures for training

Hackney and City residents are being advised that GP practices will be closed for one afternoon in July for staff training.

The City and Hackney GP Confederation, which represents the 42 Hackney and City GP practices, has arranged training workshops from 10 July as part of an ongoing drive to improve practices and the services offered to patients.

Patients will be able to use their practice as usual, to collect a prescription or book an appointment by telephone for example, until 12noon on the day of the training. From 12noon to 6.30pm the practice will be closed and will open again as usual the following morning.

Not all GP practices will be closed on the same day and posters will be displayed in the practice waiting area and on the practice front door. A message will be used on the practice telephone system to remind patients of the closure and who they should contact if they need urgent medical advice when the practice is closed. Training dates will also be available to view on GP practice websites.

Arrangements have been made for the out-of-hours service to provide support for patients during the afternoon closures.

Laura Sharpe, CEO of the City and Hackney GP Confederation, said: This is the first time training sessions for all practices have been organised within City & Hackney. We are excited to be able to offer something relevant for the entire practice workforce to help improve practices and the services they offer to patients. We would like to reassure patients that out of hours support has been arranged and practices will open as usual the day after the training.”

If a patient requires urgent medical advice during the afternoon closure of their GP practice, they can contact the out-of-hours service on: 0208 185 0545
