Celebrating national Self Care Week, City and Hackney residents are being invited to a free event on 15 November which will showcase local services and support for people to stay fit and healthy.
Hosted by City and Hackney CCG, NHS Community Voice and Peabody Trust, the free Staying Healthy event, from 10.30 - 2.30pm in Dalston, will offer attendees advice and information about staying fit and well and how to manage any long term health conditions.
The event will include a variety of information stalls and activities, including: demos on how to cook a healthy meal on a budget; chair yoga; the smoothie bike; head and shoulder massages; fruit and veg giveaways.
Healthcare staff will be on-hand to give blood pressure checks and medicines advice. Residents will also be able to share their thoughts on plans for local health and social care services.
NHS Self Care Week (12-18 November), is encouraging people to make small, lifestyle changes which can have big health and wellbeing improvements. Small steps include: exercising for at least 20 minutes a day, swapping unhealthy snacks for healthy alternatives, sleeping for seven to eight hours a night and taking time out from busy schedules to relax.
Dr Mark Ricketts, City and Hackney CCG Chair, said: “Our Staying Healthy event during national Self Care Week will offer lots of information to help residents make small, simple changes that can improve their health today, while preventing health problems from developing in the future.
“Staff at the event will be available to offer health checks, advice and support to attendees including those with any long term health conditions. I’d like to encourage all residents to drop in to the event throughout the day - it’s never too early or too late to take small steps which can make a big difference.”
Staying Healthy is one a series of events from City and Hackney CCG, City of London Corporation and Hackney Council who are working together to improve residents’ health and wellbeing by joining up health, social care and public health services.
